Dr. Joshua Neumann

Dr. Joshua Neumann is a specialist in Italian opera of the late 19th century, with emphases in performance studies and digital musicology. He earned his Ph.D. in Historical Musicology at the University of Florida in 2016 with research awards from the US Department of Education and the University of Florida. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences devoted to opera studies, performance studies, performance science, and digital humanities. In addition to ongoing work in adapting data science techniques for musicological inquiry, he is also the editor of a forthcoming collection of essays, Opera in the Digital Age. His additional activities include the development of an open-source forum for operatic analysis and maintaining an active performing and conducting schedule.

 

As an instructor, Dr. Neumann’s experience includes music research methods, Music History 1-2 (Medieval though Classical), graduate seminars on opera, and developing classroom and distance education for graduate and undergraduate students.
