Joachim Tinnefeld is a member of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

Born in Munich, Germany, Joachim studied at the Berlin University of the Arts with Klaus Stoll (Principal Double Bass at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) and  pursued his Jazz studies with Walter Norris.

Joachim was Principal Double Bass at the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, the  Würtembergisches Chamber Orchestra, the Ensemble Modern Frankfurt and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Among his engagements as Guest Principal Double Bass he performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Ensemble Modern Orchestra and others.

As a private teacher, Joachim helps students to prepare for orchestra auditions by focusing on both orchestral excerpts as well as soloist repertoire and by working on their technique and musicianship. Based on his many years of experience performing with world-class orchestras, he has an exceptionally large classical repertoire and due to his extensive work with the Ensemble Modern, Joachim is also highly knowledgeable in different techniques of contemporary and Jazz music.
