Below you will find the various programs that the Vienna Summer Music Festival offers.  At the bottom of this page and on the application page, you will find instructions for the application.  Scholarships are available for each program. 

Scholarships

All applicants are able to receive scholarship for any of the programs.  Those seeking scholarships should send a 250 - 500 word essay explaining why you are seeking a scholarship and how this program will benefit professionally.  â€‹

Scholarship essays should be submitted after you apply and must be emailed directly to:

Gospel Group

Sing in our productions this year with the VSMF Vocal Institute. Every participant receives a named role, a cover assignment participates in masterclasses, and takes lessons/coachings with world renowned vocal artists.  

Participants of the instrumental program will perform in our large/small chamber music concerts, symphonic concerts, operas, attend masterclasses, and work with members of the Vienna Philharmonic and Vienna Symponiker

The Choral Symposium at Vienna Summer Music Festival offers two weeks of intensive study for aspiring vocalists and educators, providing rigorous training in technique, conducting, and pedagogy within Vienna’s vibrant cultural setting.

The Artist Ignite Program at Vienna Summer Music Festival offers elite training for advanced opera singers, combining voice lessons, coaching, and career development to prepare artists for European auditions and management.

The Opera Composition Program immerses emerging composers in mentorship, dramatic writing, and orchestration, culminating in a staged workshop premiere providing essential training, guidance, and performance opportunities in opera and musical theater.

Assistant Conductors gain unparalleled experience working with Vienna State Opera and Vienna Symphoniker faculty, assisting and conducting across instrumental and vocal programs while developing artistry, leadership, and professional excellence.

OPERA/THEATRE PROGRAM

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Applicants for the OPERA/THEATRE PROGRAM are required to submit two contrasting operatic arias, one of which needs to be sung in French, Italian, or German.  Additionally, applicants who would like to be considered for musical should submit one or two contrasting songs.  One from the Golden Age of Musical Theatre and one contemporary song. 

 

All application and audition materials including YouTube links, audio files, headshot, resume and must be submitted via a single link to an approved file sharing site such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or iCloud.

Resumes may be submitted as PDF or Word Document files only, and should include the applicant’s first and last name.

 

Video auditions need to be submitted as YouTube links, and audio auditions should be submitted as MP3 files, and should be included in the materials included in the single file sharing link. File names should include the applicant’s first and last name, program of interest, and the creation date of the recording. (Example: Emily Brown_Opera Institute_08/16.MP3)

 

All applicants will be contacted by The Vienna Summer Music Festival for a phone or video conference interview, and should receive an initial response in 7-10 business days.

INSTRUMENTALISTS

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Applicants for the INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM should submit one to two videos (3 - 7 minutes which may include orchestral excerpts, solo work, or chamber ensemble).  If you have a particular request for your chamber music assignment, please let us know.

All application and audition materials including YouTube links, audio files, headshot, resume and must be submitted via a single link to an approved file sharing site such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or iCloud.

CHORAL SYMPOSIUM

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Applicants for the CHORAL SYMPOSIUM should submit one to two videos of yourself conducting or leading a choir either in rehearsal or a performance.  

​

If you do not have video materials, you may instead submit a 500–750 word essay explaining your interest in choral music.

If you are applying as a singer only, please submit a video of yourself singing in a choir.

ARTIST IGNITE

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Applicants for ARTIST IGNITE are required to submit two contrasting operatic arias, one of which needs to be sung in French, Italian, or German.  Additionally, applicants who would like to be considered for musical should submit one or two contrasting songs.  Applicants should also include a 500 word essay about why they believe they are prepared for the next phase of their career to enter the world professionally. 

 

All application and audition materials including YouTube links, audio files, headshot, resume and must be submitted via a single link to an approved file sharing site such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or iCloud. 

​

Resumes may be submitted as PDF or Word Document files only, and should include the applicant’s first and last name.

OPERA COMPOSITION

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Applicants for OPERA COMPOSITION are required to submit two contrasting original compositions (preferably operatic songs but instrumental music is fine as well.)  MIDI realizations are acceptable.  Applicants should submit scores and mp3s of their works.  

 

All application and audition materials including YouTube links, audio files, headshot, resume and must be submitted via a single link to an approved file sharing site such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or iCloud.

Resumes may be submitted as PDF or Word Document files only, and should include the applicant’s first and last name.

ASSISTANT CONDUCTORS

Applicants for the ASSITANT CONDUCTING PROGRAM are required to submit one to two videos of them conducting a rehearsal or performance of a large ensemble.
