VOCAL MUSIC EDUCATION 

The Vienna Summer Music Festival is proud to announce the Vocal Music Education and Choral Conducting Program.  This program is designed for undergraduate music education students, graduate students, and working educators seeking professional development experience. The program will be led by renowned musicians in Vienna’s beautiful historic concert venues.  Students will participate in daily choral rehearsals; attend workshops in conducting, vocal and teaching techniques; and will perform in a final major works concert.  Students will attend Masterclasses in voice and conducting and will receive an applied lesson.  The Vienna Summer Music Festival fosters excellence allowing you to become a part of a life long musical community. This program will inspire and transform both you and your students!

PROGRAM FEE: €1950

Includes: housing, private lessons, coachings, facilities, faculty, masterclasses, visiting guests, cultural excursions

Curriculum

While in Vienna, you will attend classes and rehearsals in preparation for a concert at the end of the program

Vocal Techniques Workshop

This workshop will emphasize correct vocal production including placement, breathing  techniques, vocal exercises and appropriate repertoire for various levels.  

Diction

Will include a discussion of (IPA) The International Phonetic Alphabet applying it to French German and Italian. 

Conducting Techniques Workshop

This workshop is specifically designed to develop conducting skills including simple and mixed meter patterns, stylistic articulation,expressive communication, and score study and preparation. 

Music Education Methods Workshop

This workshop will include daily rehearsal techniques for the choral setting.  Techniques to improve classroom management, increased student participation, choral music selections, choral sound production and recruitment. 

Masterclasses

You will be able to attend and participate in Masterclasses led by VSMF voice faculty and Conducting faculty. Please prepare a solo selection if you are interested in participating.  

Applied Lessons

Each participant will receive private lessons as well the opportunity to take additional lessons with our VSMF voice faculty.

Additional Information

A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • 9:30 - 12:30 Choral Rehearsal 

  • 12:30 - 1:30  Lunch 

  • 1:30 - 4:30   Afternoon Session  

  • 5:30 - 6:30  Evening Session

PERFORMANCE

At the end of the program, there will be a concert in which you will be a part of the choir.

All application and audition materials including YouTube links, audio files, headshot, resume and must be submitted via a single link to an approved file sharing site such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or iCloud. 

 

Resumes may be submitted as PDF or Word Document files only, and should include the applicant’s first and last name and program of interest.

Advanced conducting applicants may also submit a YouTube clip of themselves conducting as part of the application. 

 

All applicants will be contacted by The Vienna Summer Music Festival for a phone or video conference interview, and should receive an initial response in 7-10 business days.

 

An application fee of $35 is required for submission.
