Meet Abigail Getty, third year horn student

Abigail Getty is a third year horn student at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, studying under Jeff Scott and now David Byrd-Marrow. She is a graduate of Interlochen’s class of 2022, where she studied under Corbin Wagner, and continues to frequently study with Nancy Fako. The summer of 2024, Abigail attended the Credo Festival at the Chicago Symphony Center where she performed Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 under the direction of David Chan. In the fall of 2024, she took part in Oberlin’s ARS concert performance of Rhianna Gideon’s opera Omar, under the direction of John Kennedy, with a special performance at the Maltz Center in Cleveland. In addition to orchestral experiences, Abigail has participated in several chamber groups performing pieces such as West Side Story Suites for Brass Quintet, a Tribute to Ballet, and the Schubert Octet. Abigail has premiered works by Oberlin student composers Jacob Richter, Chloe Arnold, Benjamin Muir, and Katya Mueller. Outside of horn playing, Abigail enjoys pursuing a comprehensive understanding of world history, teaching students individually, and writing. In 2021, she won the Global Oneness Project’s Photo Essay contest in which she wrote about and captured in a photo what the word “Reciprocity” meant to her. Since 2022, Abigail has worked as a Student Assistant in Oberlin Conservatory Communications Office writing articles and promotions for the Oberlin Conservatory’s many events.
