Meet Bella Funk, fifth-year undergraduate

Bella Funk is a fifth-year undergraduate at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where she is specializing in Horn Performance. Originally born in Guatemala, Bella has spent the majority of her upbringing in Union, Kentucky, before heading to Bloomington to become a proud hoosier. She is currently under the teaching of Richard Seraphinoff, having also previously studied with Jeff Nelsen, Molly Norcross, and Linda Glover. In addition to her own studies, Bella teaches to middle and high school students through the Jacobs Virtual Academy, teaching in the Southern and Central Indiana region.

At Jacobs, Bella has gained extensive ensemble experience, participating in various major ensembles in addition to several chamber groups. She notably performed with the Big Red Horn Club, which represented the school at the International Horn Symposium in Montreal in 2023. Additionally, Bella has participated in the Vienna Summer Festival in both 2022 and 2024, and she has also attended the Interharmony Summer Music Festival in Acqui Terme, Italy in 2022.

Beyond her musical endeavors, Bella is actively involved in the Indiana University’s Adoptee Awareness Student Association, the first organization of its kind established at an Indiana college, where she serves as Vice President and Advocacy Chair. Furthermore, she is an avid rock climber, working at her local climbing gym and seeking opportunities to climb outdoors or at the gym whenever possible!

Come see her perform this July in the Vienna Summer Music Festival!
