Meet Robert Kohler, musician

Robert Kohler is a musician, artist, and teacher who has loved music and performance since he was young. He was born in Mexico and spent most of his life in McAllen, Texas, where he was introduced to the double bass in 6th grade. He immediately fell in love with the instrument and performance, being accepted into the Honors Performance Series in 8th grade. Later, he would become a part of NYO-USA for their 2020, 2021, and 2022 programs, performing under the direction of Carlos Miguel-Prieto in 2021 and Daniel Harding in 2022. He has played in major concert halls across the United States and Europe, from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam to Carnegie Hall in New York City.

On top of his love of performing, Robert recently found his love of teaching after having gone on a mission trip in Romania with some very dear friends. There, he taught music theory as well as choir and brass instruments to children in Oradea, Romania, and upon returning to the United States, he now is studying to become a music educator both in the United States and abroad.

Robert currently studies at SMU in Dallas, Texas, under the instruction of Brian Perry. He will complete his Bachelors in Music Education in the spring of 2026.

Come see him perform this July in the Vienna Summer Music Festival!
