Meet Sterling Powell, trombonist

Sterling Powell is a trombonist originally from Indianapolis, Indiana,
U.S. He currently holds the position as principal trombone of the Arizona Symphony Orchestra, and is a substitute trombonist for the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, and the Century Room Jazz Orchestra.

Since his early studies, Sterling has been passionate about grand ballet and opera, performing as the principal trombone of the Butler Ballet Orchestra and University of Arizona Opera Orchestra. This has allowed him to be a part of full-length masterpieces such as Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker," "Swan Lake," and Prokofiev's "Cinderella" with the nationally-esteemed Butler Ballet, as well as Strauss Jr.'s "Die Fledermaus" with the University of Arizona Opera Theater. Sterling has also performed under the baton of Manhattan Chamber Orchestra founder Richard Auldon Clark and former "The President's Own" United States Marine Band director colonel Michael J. Colburn.

This summer, Sterling will also be competing at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah as a semi-finalist for the chamber division, and perform with the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra in Branson, Missouri. He is now a recognized and sought-after freelancer throughout the greater Arizona regions and had recently performed Ravel's famous "Boléro" with the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra under maestro Linus Lerner.

Come see them perform this July in the Vienna Summer Music Festival!
