Meet Brett Boyer

Brett Boyer is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree at Michigan State University, where he studies with Dr. Nermis Mieses, whilst he also serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. He has been awarded first prize in the Midwest Double Reed Society's "Eric Varner Young Artist Competition" and has been awarded the “Undergraduate Scholar Award” by the Presser Foundation; he has attended the Sewanee Summer Music Festival twice and Rocky Ridge Music Festival. Additionally, he was selected to perform in a masterclass for Gordon Hunt at the 2024 International Double Reed Society’s Conference in Flagstaff, AZ. Brett completed his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City (UMKC) Conservatory, where he was a student of Celeste Johnson. While at UMKC, he served in the Student Government Association, where he served three terms, once as Speaker of the Senate. Outside of music, he enjoys reading, spending time in nature, and playing with his dog.
