Meet James A. Cyganek, baritone
James A. Cyganek is a baritone from Atlanta, GA and Charleston, SC. He is about to begin his senior year at the College of Charleston as a double major in Vocal Performance and Computing in the Arts. He is the Bass section leader in both the college's Concert Choir, and the Cathedral of St. Luke & St. Paul’s church choir, and plays lead pan in the CofC Steel Pan Band. He is the National Anthem/Alma Mater soloist for numerous formal school ceremonies. As a recipient of their Season Scholarship, he also sings with the Charleston Men’s Chorus, and is part of the College of Charleston Opera program where he recently performed the title role in Giordano’s Il Re. Favorite roles include Frank in Die Fledermaus and Crespel in Les Contes d'Hoffmann, as well as singing in the ensembles of Charleston Opera Theater’s productions of La bohème, L’elisir d’amore and Don Giovanni. He loves introducing opera to the students of the low country in CofC Children’s Opera productions. Last Summer, he performed in Italy at the Cantieri Culturali festival through the Breno Italy International Music Academy. This Summer, he looks forward to performing again at Charleston's Piccolo Spoleto Festival through the Young Artist Series, the Charleston Men’s Choir Memorial Day Concert, and with the CofC Steel Pan Band. He is excited to follow that up by taking the stage as Schaunard and Achilla at the Vienna Summer Music Festival.
