Meet Kevin Toma, undergraduate student

Kevin Toma is an undergraduate student of Dr. Ben Roidl-Ward at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He is originally from Hawaii and is currently pursuing a double major in Instrumental Music Education and Bassoon Performance, and is also taking additional private lessons in oboe performance under Professor John Dee. Kevin started his music journey on the flute in the seventh grade, learning tenor saxophone in high school to join their jazz band. He only started learning the bassoon 10 months before he auditioned for undergraduate study, under Francine Peterson in Bothell, Washington. Kevin’s major bassoon performances include Telemann’s Sonata in f minor Mvmts 2 and 3, Beethoven’s “Egmont” Overture, Watkins’ “Soul of Remembrance” from “Five Movements in Color,” Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2 Finale, Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 Mvmts 2 and 4, and Book 3 of “Anastasia.”

Come see him perform this July in the Vienna Summer Music Festival!
